Artificial Intelligence
Information
This session explores how AI can be leveraged as a tutor, coach, or teammate to enhance learning and reimagine assignments. Educators will learn to integrate AI tools like Snorkl and SchoolAI, creating AI-assisted, AI-enhanced, or AI-empowered activities that address student challenges and personalize learning.
Outline
1. Introduction & Session Overview (10 minutes)
Content: Briefly introduce AI in education, addressing misconceptions about AI and its potential beyond cheating.
Engagement: Icebreaker poll using Mentimeter or Poll Everywhere to gauge attendees' current use and understanding of AI in the classroom.
Process: Interactive discussion on the diverse roles AI can take (mentor, tutor, teammate). Use of real-world examples to spark curiosity.
2. The AI Integration Continuum (15 minutes)
Content: Introduce the "0 to Infinity AI Integration Chart," explaining the levels of AI integration (AI-free, AI-assisted, AI-enhanced, AI-empowered).
Engagement: Participants collaborate in small groups (PLC-style) to identify an assignment they want to reimagine.
Process: Peer-to-peer interaction in small groups, discussing challenges students face in their assignments and brainstorming how AI can address these challenges.
3. Hands-On AI Tool Exploration (25 minutes)
Content: Demonstration of AI tools like Snorkl and SchoolAI, showcasing how they act as mentors, tutors, and teammates.
Engagement: Participants will explore and experiment with these AI tools on their devices, guided by specific scenarios.
Process: Device-based activities where participants engage with AI tools to enhance feedback, provide direct instruction, or foster metacognition in assignments.
4. AI Assignment Design Workshop (25 minutes)
Content: Guide participants through reimagining their selected assignment, incorporating AI at various integration levels.
Engagement: Participants work on creating their AI-assisted or AI-empowered assignments using brainstorming tools like the "AI Integration Assistant Chatbot."
Process: Hands-on assignment creation, peer feedback through group collaboration, and sharing via Padlet for real-time discussion.
5. Showcase & Feedback (10 minutes)
Content: Participants share their AI-integrated assignments with the group.
Engagement: Brief presentations of assignment ideas, followed by group discussion on potential improvements or adjustments.
Process: Peer-to-peer feedback using structured reflection prompts. The group will vote on the most innovative AI integration example.
6. Wrap-Up & Next Steps (5 minutes)
Content: Summarize key takeaways, provide additional resources, and outline next steps for AI implementation.
Engagement: Q&A session where participants can ask questions or share thoughts.
Process: Final reflective activity where attendees share one actionable idea they'll apply in their classroom.
