This session showcases MakerSTREAM, a lesson collection integrating science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and mathematics (STREAM) with CASEL’s SEL framework. Attendees will explore project-based learning that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence, empowering students to thrive academically and socially.

Presentation Outline -Introduction (5 minutes) Brief overview of Maker Stream and the importance of Maker Education in schools. -Importance of Maker Education (10 minutes) Discuss the benefits of Maker Education. Introduce Problem-Based Learning and its role in STEAM education. -Misconceptions and Challenges (10 minutes) Address common misconceptions about Maker Education. Discuss challenges such as cost of materials and time constraints. -Strategies for Implementation (15 minutes) Explore methods to integrate Maker Education into the curriculum. Emphasize collaboration, use of digital resources, and fostering creativity. -Future-Ready Librarians Framework (10 minutes) Explain the role of librarians in promoting collaboration and innovation in education. Discuss the importance of curating digital resources and cultivating community partnerships. -Interactive Activity (10 minutes) Group activity where participants brainstorm ways to incorporate Maker Education in their own educational settings. -Q&A session to address any queries or concerns. -Conclusion (5 minutes) Summarize key points. Encourage participants to embrace Maker Education and collaborative practices. MakerSTREAM stickers handed out to participants as they enter the session. The stickers will have numbers on the back for drawings with books that are in our lessons.
