Outline
Title/Introduction/Pre-Work (5 mins) Welcome & Hook: Attendees check out "Quick, Draw!" and access the presentation. Engage the audience and introduce the theme of AI as a partner. Generative AI & Prompting (10 mins) Define Generative AI (creates new content, uses LLMs) and Prompt Engineering Participants understand the vocabulary and the rule: "What you get out of AI is only as good as what you put in!" 10 mins Gemini Deep Dive Introduce Gemini (generative AI chatbot that creates text/images) and its features (draft communications, "thought partner"). 15 mins Challenge: Power Up Drive Participants practice Instant Summary and Compare Files. Participants learn to use AI for high-level efficiency (summarizing, analyzing) and immediately generating targeted feedback insights. 15mins Brisk Integration & Differentiation Model Introduce Brisk (Chrome extension to interact with documents/webpages). Focus on the Boost Student Activity feature for differentiation (Tutor, Pulse Check, Writing Coach). Show the Teacher Data view highlighting Activity Insights (Strengths/Needs Work). Share various lessons taught by coaches and classroom teachers and how the data helped to drive their instruction. Participants learn the differentiation model by practicing generating a Boost Student Activity (Exit Ticket) and viewing the resulting teacher data. 20-30 minsTeachers then have time to create their own.
Supporting research
Sal Khan (Author of Brave New Words): AI tutors are the only scalable way to give every student personalized learning, support, and guidance previously only available through cost-prohibitive human tutors. Our session shows this is a reality today. Victorian Academy: https://www.academy.vic.gov.au/resources/enhancing-differentiation-classroom-using-generative-artificial-intelligence: AI can process vast amounts of data on student patterns to enable the creation of personalized learning paths for each student, acknowledging that no two students learn the same way.
