Outline
I. Welcome & Setting Our Intention: The Why & The How (5 minutes) - Engagement: "Status Check - There Is No Spoon" (2 minutes): Participants will use a visual scale matrix to gauge their current stress/well-being levels and their openness to new ideas. This fosters immediate self-reflection and sets an inclusive tone. - Personal Reflection & Intention Setting (3 minutes): We'll invite participants to silently consider: "How do you currently find moments of calm and focus in your busy day?" and "Have you ever experienced 'flow' while engaged in a tech activity?" This personalizes the session's relevance. II. Focus + Flow: Where Tech and Mindfulness Meet (10 minutes) - The Digital Deluge: Unpacking Screen Time & Notifications (5 minutes): A quick, impactful presentation of data on average daily notifications and student/teacher stress/burnout statistics. Participants will be prompted to find their own device's screen time data for a tangible connection. - Can the Logic of Coding Promote Flow? Interactive Discussion (5 minutes): We'll delve into the theoretical framework of how computational thinking can lead to a mindful "flow" state. This will include a lively, interactive discussion. III. Peaceful Programming: Debugging Your Soul (25 minutes) - "Programming Dilemmas" & "Programmer Emotions Word Cloud" (5 minutes): We'll kick off with a thought-provoking question: "What emotions might a programmer face when encountering a bug?". Participants will contribute to a live word cloud, visually representing the emotional landscape of coding. - Decoding "Bugs" & Debugging Strategies (5 minutes): A clear explanation of what a "bug" is in computer science and an introduction to the "Debugging Strategy Toolbox" . The critical first step: "But FIRST… Take a DEEP BREATH!" will be emphasized - Hands-On Mindful Coding & Debugging Challenges (10 minutes): Participants will dive into curated Scratch challenges designed to foster mindfulness and resilience through problem-solving. These challenges will be offered at mild, medium, and spicy levels to accommodate all skill sets. - Reflection: "After Debugging Word Cloud" (5 minutes): After completing the coding challenges, participants will reflect on their feelings and contribute to a new word cloud, highlighting the sense of accomplishment and reduced stress. IV. Balancing: Using Tech to Find Your Zen (10 minutes) - Beyond the Screen: Holistic Well-being Tools (5 minutes): We'll explore various tech tools for well-being across different domains (mental, nutrition, sleep, etc.). This includes a brief overview of relevant apps and resources like Common Sense Media - Interactive AI Wellness Bot Experience (5 minutes): Participants will engage in quick prompting exercises with a pre-built AI wellness bot. This hands-on activity demonstrates how AI can guide mindfulness practices and provide personalized support. V. System Reboot: Let's Get Centered & Take Action (10 minutes) - The Power of Community Care vs. Self-Care (5 minutes): A crucial discussion on the importance of collective well-being and building supportive learning environments, moving beyond the individualistic view of self-care. - Reflection & Well-Being Action Steps (5 minutes): Guided reflection on the session's key takeaways. Participants will then articulate one or two concrete "Well-Being Action Steps" they can incorporate into their daily routines or classrooms, such as mindful tech breaks or exploring creative coding for joy.
